Peace with God is Possible

If you’re not at peace… read this

Share this devotional:
You have peace with God through Jesus

You’re not alone if you feel distant from God. Did you know writers of the Bible also felt like this? Like maybe something is off, and you’re not as close as you should be.

Romans 5:1 reminds us,  “since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.” Romans 5:1-2.

Your relationship with Jesus has been secured by Him, and He is closer than you think. If you feel distant, the temptation may be to try harder. That sounds like the opposite of peace.

You don’t have to work your way back to God. Through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, your relationship is secured and restored. Peace with God is available right now when you respond to what Jesus has done for you.

Respond by singing with the next song that plays on WorshipOne, or praying with us through the prayer below:

A Prayer for Peace with God

Jesus, thank You for securing my relationship with You

Thank You for making peace with God possible

Thank You that I don’t have to earn my way back to You

Is there anything that I’m doing that I shouldn’t be?

Are there any ways that I’m trying to earn your love or peace rather than receive?

Your grace is a gift.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

  • You’re Not Falling Behind

    Anxiety

It’s easy to look around and feel behind.

    They got the job.

    They found the relationship.

    They bought the house.

They are figuring out life…and you may be wondering: “did I miss my turn?”

But Psalm 139:16 says, You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (NLT) What does that mean? It means that God is not pacing you against anyone else around you. He’s guiding you on a timeline that’s wise, intentional, customized, and filled with purpose.

You’re not late. You’re not behind. You’re being shaped by a God who loves you.

Here’s one thought for today: God’s Not comparing your timeline to anyone else. And you don’t have to either.

If you need a moment to breath and trust His timing again, we have a guided prayer for you below:

  • You Can Have a Fresh Start

    Anxiety, Shame, Trusting God

You don’t need a new year, new month, or new job to start over. Sometimes you just need a reminder: new isn’t as far away as it may feel. Lamentations 3:23 says that God’s mercies are “new every morning.” Think about where you’re struggling, where you’re longing for a fresh start, where you’re looking for forgiveness. Now think about how far away tomorrow morning it.

Every sunrise is proof that God hasn’t given up on you. There’s forgiveness, God’s love, and mercy waiting for you every morning.

So, no. You haven’t missed your chance. God hasn’t changed His mind about you. You can begin again, today, with God.

If you want one takeaway here it is: God is known for new beginnings. When you’re ready to start fresh, we have a prayer waiting for you below:

God is known for new beginnings
  • God Goes With You

    Anxiety, Trusting God

Are you a fan of “new?” New things can be exciting and unsettling at the same time. Is there anything new in your life? New school, new job, new relationship, new responsibilities, new challenges? Everything new brings a certain… uncertainty. Sometimes the hardest thing about anything new is the fear of facing it alone.

In Exodus 33, God invited Moses to do something new and wildly outside of his comfort zone. Moses is unsure and anxious. He goes back and forth with God a couple times but each time, God assures Moses, “I will be with you.” (v.12)

God may be sending you somewhere new but He’s not giving these instructions from a distance. He goes with you.

So, if you’re stepping into something new today like a conversation or decision, God walks with you. Not standing behind you, pushing you forward or yelling from a distance. God goes with you.

If you want to pray before stepping into something new, we have a guided prayer for you below:

God goes with you, into the new
  • God is Growing You Through It

    Anxiety, Trusting God

Growth rarely feels comfortable. Growing pains are called growing pains for a reason! Either literally or figuratively, growth is stretching and sometimes slow or frustrating. When growth happens in a difficult season, you can wonder, “is anything good actually coming from this?”

James, one of the authors in the Bible, tells us that followers of Jesus can have joy whenever you face trials because these tests can strengthen your faith and actually produce perseverance. God doesn’t waste a single moment in a difficult season. (James 1:2-4)

When we avoid difficult things in life, we might be avoiding something God is leading us towards. He uses these things to form you into who He’s calling you to become. When you go there with Him, be confident He’ll create in you resilience, character and faith. Take this one thought with you: God uses challenges to shape something good in you.

If you’re feeling these growing pains with God, we’ve created a prayer for you below:

God uses challenges to shape something good in you.
  • God Invites You… And Others

    Feeling Alone

There’s a quiet belief many of us carry… ”I can do faith on my own.”

We listen to podcasts, read books, pray privately, and keep our real struggles mostly to ourselves. And while your personal faith matters, Scripture reminds us that personal faith isn’t a solo journey.

Have you noticed how the Bible describes the church? Not a crowd or a building. A body. And bodies only function when every part is connected. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Not giving up meeting together…but encouraging one another. “

Faith grows in community. This community looks like encouragement, sharing life, confession, worship, and showing up for one another when you don’t feel like you want to or need to. There’s believing and belonging involved in this faith. Here’s your one thought today: God doesn’t want you walking alone.

If you’d like to pray about taking a step toward community, we’ve created a guided prayer for you below:

  • God Wanted You First

    Feeling Alone, Prayer

It’s easy to think faith is about getting to God. Trying harder. Being better. Praying more. Trying desperately to figure out what’s missing to finally feel close to Him.

But the story of Jesus begins completely different. Matthew 1:23 gives Jesus a name – Emmanuel, which means God with us. Not distant. Not waiting at the top. Jesus is God with us.

It may not be Christmas, but remember that word ‘Emmanuel’ today. Jesus left heaven to reach you. All this striving to be close to Him can be good, but only if you remember that He’s already close. Here’s one takeaway for you: no matter how much you want God, He wants you more.

If you want to pray through that, keep reading.

No matter how much you want God, He wants you more.
  • When Blessings Aren’t Convenient

    Anxiety, Trusting God

We tend to call something a blessing when it makes life easier. But what if that’s too small a definition? Be open to a blessing in the form of change, responsibility, or growth that you didn’t ask for but desperately need. God often blesses in ways that stretch us. And we can be thankful for this because when He does, our faith deepens and our character forms. Romans 5 says, “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.”

So here’s your one takeaway: Some of God’s greatest blessings will stretch you before they settle you. If you want to pray about seeing God’s goodness even when life feels messy, we have a guided prayer for you below:

  • Hope is an Anchor

    Anxiety, Trusting God

How would you define hope? It’s ok if you don’t have a definition. You probably use that word a lot, though. Hope can be hard to describe, but even harder to live without. Thankfully, the Bible has a lot to say about Hope and where real, lasting hope can be found. Spoiler alert: it’s Jesus.

Hebrews 6:19 says that hope is “an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Imagine an anchor when you think about hope. Anchors do two things: they keep boats from drifting, and they keep them stable in storms. Isn’t that what we long for in the storms of life? A little more certainty and stability?

If you hope in anything or anyone other than Jesus, don’t be surprised if you feel a little seasick. Tossed back and forth by the waves of life. But if you tie your hope to Jesus, a firm and secure anchor for our souls, don’t be surprised if He gives you what your soul longs for: hope. Hope doesn’t deny your uncertainty. Hope reminds you that you can be stable with Jesus. Here’s your one thought today: hope anchors you when life is unstable. If you want a prayer to anchor you today, keep reading.

  • The Lord is Your Shepherd

    Feeling Alone, Trusting God

Let’s slow down with one of the most well-known Bible verses and let these words settle in: “The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing.” This can be both the most familiar and distant verse at the same time. Do you actually know a shepherd? How does God being a shepherd have anything to do with you lacking nothing?

A shepherd leads, protects, corrects, and provides. Sheep simply cannot lead themselves. They need someone to guide them. It’s humbling, but we’re more like sheep than we would like to admit. We try to be the leaders of our own lives, and each of us will eventually realize… we can’t.

Thankfully, God’s leadership is worth following. He’s not controlling. He protects. He’s wise. He doesn’t want to restrict your life, but give you the life you’re made for. Perhaps this is why Jesus calls Himself a “good shepherd.”

The question is not whether God is leading. It’s are you following? Take this one thought with you: the Good Shepherd is the best leader for my life, and He gives me everything I need. If you want to let the Good Shepherd lead you today, we have a prayer waiting for you below.

The Good Shepherd is the best
  • Having a Holy God is Good News

    Anxiety

Holiness means set apart. Different. The angels know this, and it’s why they sing “Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty,” in Isaiah 6:3. God is completely pure, completely good, and completely different from us. Where we fall short and sin, God remains perfect and sinless.

Intimidating? Maybe a little. But here’s why holiness is good news: it’s the reason evil loses. It’s the reason justice prevails. It’s the reason a relationship with God is possible.

A holy God means sin is real and a big deal. A holy God also loves us enough to do something about it. Take this one truth with you: God’s holiness is the guarantee that evil will not win. If you want a prayer to thank God for being holy, pray with us through the prayer below:

God's holiness is the guarantee that evil will not win
  • The Lord Fights for You

    Exhaustion, Feeling Alone, Trusting God

In Exodus 14, the people of God are trapped between the Red Sea and an Egyptian army. There is no visible way out. They don’t have an escape plan. No amount of strength or strategy can get them out of this. God had brought Moses and Israel this far just to be…trapped?

Then Moses speaks these words. “The LORD will fight for you; you only need to be still.”

God does not need human strength to accomplish His divine plan. He is not strengthened by your effort, not weakened by your limits. If you read the rest of this story, the Israelites didn’t save themselves. God intervened.

The same God who delivered them is not limited to what limits you. Having limits is what makes you human. God created you to have limits. Here’s your one thought: Recognize your limits as a gift from God and let Him go beyond them.

Recognize your limits as a gift from God
