Why does contentment always seem just out of reach? Many of us are unintentionally (but maybe intentionally) trained to want the next thing. The upgrade. The promotion. The relationship. The version of life on the other side of ____. You fill in the blank.
Paul said something surprising in Philippians 4:12. “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”
Learned. You can learn and grow in contentment. So, contentment isn’t pretending you don’t have wants or desires. And it’s not pretending that hard things are easy. What does growing in contentment practically look like? Maybe you’ve heard verse 13 before. “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
This verse in context is all about being sustained, or held, by Jesus whether you have plenty, very little, or somewhere in between. Here’s your one thought for today, contentment grows when Jesus becomes enough.
