Are you the type of person who lays out clothes the night before or decides what you wear minutes before walking out the door? Either way, you choose what you wear, right? And hopefully you choose clothes that match the rest of your day. The Bible says our hearts need the same kind of daily choosing.
Colossians 3:12 says, “Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Then, in verse 14: “Over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
Try this simple practice the next time you’re deciding what to wear. Let each piece of clothing be a reminder of what you just read. As you put on a shirt, pray for compassion. As you tie your shoes, pray for patience. And now, getting dressed becomes a prayer instead of a normal routine.
Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love don’t come naturally. That’s exactly why Paul frames it as a choice- just like how you choose what clothes to wear. Here’s today’s one thought: you get to choose what you clothe your heart with.
