Do your prayers ever feel boring? You’re not the only one! They could feel boring, though, because we love to keep our prayers safe. Some parts of us are easy to bring to God. The parts that we’re proud of or the parts that we think would make him proud. Let’s call these safe prayers. Safe prayers tend to lead to boring prayers. But what might happen if we pray a bold prayer like this one in Psalm 139?
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24.
It’s intimidating to invite God to search the parts of you that you might rather stay hidden or keep in the dark. But if you’re willing to let Him lead you somewhere better, into the light, we have a guided prayer for you. Take this one thought with you before we pray: You don’t have to hide from God. Invite Him to search you instead.
