Jesus Understands What You’re Going Through

There’s a temptation to imagine Jesus as being so holy that He becomes hard to approach. And, yes, Jesus is so completely holy. There is no one like Him. He is God and undeniably worthy of all of our worship and adoration. Which makes this next verse almost unbelievable. Almost. 

“We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses…” Jesus knows what it’s like to be tired, misunderstood, tempted, grieved, pressured, and rejected. Jesus is 100% God and 100% human. 

That means that Jesus isn’t hard to approach. He’s not cold or detached. Instead of being distant, He’s closer than you think. When you come to Jesus, you’re coming to the Savior who understands your weakness and doesn’t turn away. That’s why the next verse encourages us to approach God’s throne with confidence because Jesus is merciful and full of grace. Let’s do this together through prayer. 

A Prayer to the Merciful High Priest

God, your word says that I can approach your throne of grace with confidence because of Jesus

Thank you for understanding my weakness and still allowing me to come close

You are holy

But you are not distant

Please meet me with mercy and grace for what I’m facing today

Amen

  • Jesus Welcomes Your Imperfection

    One of the things that might surprise you about Jesus is who He spent time with. Tax Collectors. Sinners. Outsiders. Imperfect people, and sometimes the people who were put down the most. The religious elite during those days criticized Jesus for being close with these people, but Jesus said something that can bring us so much hope today. 

    “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17. Sometimes we fall into the trap of pretending we don’t have any needs. But it’s good to be needy. Jesus came for people who know they need Him. 

    You don’t have to try fixing yourself before coming close to God. You don’t have to feel that pressure pretending to be better than you really are. You can save all of that time and energy… Just come honestly, and Jesus will meet you there every time. Let’s come honestly before Jesus today. Will you pray with us?

  • God Always Tells the Truth

    Brokenness, Feeling Lost, Trusting God

    People break promises. (And you probably have, too.) Sometimes intentionally. Sometimes, because circumstances change. Ever heard of “overpromise and underdeliver?”  All of this makes trust difficult. Is God any different?

    God is not like us. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.” 

    So we can be grateful knowing that God doesn’t exaggerate, manipulate, or overpromise and underdeliver. When He speaks in Scripture, He is revealing what is true. His words are trustworthy. 

    Here’s today’s one thought: God’s words are as reliable as His character. God cannot lie. Let’s build our trust as we pray:
