It’s easy to miss what other people are carrying. Maybe it’s not intentional. We could be busy, they could do a good job hiding it, or sometimes we see something but choose to look away. What if someone needs you to notice, though?
Romans 12:15 says “rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those that mourn.” This is what each of us long for to happen for us but it might be hard to do for others. Celebrating when someone has joy. Sitting with someone when they hurt.
This goes against natural tendencies to try to fix everything, bring it back to you, or rush people into a different emotion. But Jesus did it perfectly. He entered people’s joy, grief, pain, and questions with so much love. Let’s pay attention to what others might be carrying today.
