Taking a break can sometimes feel irresponsible. After all, there’s always more to do. One more message to send, thing to fix, assignment to finish, or problem to worry about.
And in a world that never stops moving, Sabbath is one of the ways God teaches His people to stop, take a breath, and trust Him. Exodus 20:8 says, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest…”
Think of the Sabbath less as a day off and more as a day of declaration. On this day of rest, you can remind yourself:
The world doesn’t rest on my shoulders.
My worth is not measured by my work.
God, You keep working even when I stop
Resting becomes worship. You are allowed to stop because God never needs to. Remember today’s one thought when you’re tempted not to take a day of rest: God is God, and I am not.
