Hiding is fun as a kid, but exhausting the older you get. Hiding from other people eventually turns into hiding from yourself and hiding from God. So what’s the antidote for hiding? Confession.
The strange thing about hiding from God is that He already knows everything. So if that’s true, confession isn’t telling God something He didn’t know. Confession is you coming to a place where you agree with Him about what is true.
1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.” We believe the lie so often that says if we confess, we’ll feel shame. But do you see the word ‘shame’ anywhere in 1 John 1:9? No. The promise is that if we confess, we will receive forgiveness and experience grace.
You don’t have to hide what grace is ready to bring into the light. Confession is how you get there. And remember this one thought, shame and grace can’t live in the same space.
