Do you think that some emotions move faster than others? It might be different for you, but anger is one that can really move fast. Before you know it, you say something sharp or send that defensive text. A reaction just comes out before wisdom has time to catch up. How do we slow down anger so it doesn’t take over?
Proverbs 15:1 says, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” It takes strength to slow down when you want to react. It takes wisdom to answer without matching or turning up the temperature of the room. And it takes the Spirit of God with you to choose peace instead of anger.
Gentleness is not weakness. Faithfulness for you today might look like taking a pause. One breath before responding. One prayer before sending. One gentle answer. Because gentleness interrupts what anger tries to escalate.
