In Isaiah 6, the prophet Isaiah sees a vision of God sitting on His throne while the angels sing, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3). What’s special about that word ‘Holy’?
The angels could’ve been singing, “strong, strong, strong’ or ‘loving, loving, loving.’ But, instead, they sing holy. God is completely set apart and completely pure. He is unlike anyone else, especially us.
If you keep reading Isaiah 6, Isaiah is in awe. So should we. Whether we know we’re doing this or not, we can reduce God to someone we can manage. God becomes someone who mainly exists to support our plans or calm our stress, but God is so much bigger than that.
And somehow this big, holy God still chooses to move towards us and invites us to come close to Him. Consider this one thought today: God’s holiness can lead you closer to Him, not further away.
