Is there something you long for God to change in you? Your thought life, or how you talk about other people when they’re not around? Maybe a bad habit you’ve had for a long time? God is in the business of changing people but it looks different than how we try to change ourselves. 

Through the prophet Ezekiel, God promises something remarkable. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.” Ezekiel 36:26. God doesn’t just improve behavior. He transforms your heart. 

God knows that real, lasting change begins on the inside and eventually grows outward over time. God takes His time because He’s forming something deeper in you than a quick fix. What is missing from your life? More clarity? More security? Answers? Control? Psalm 73 says something might shift everything.

“Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You.” Psalm 73:25.

Life may not be perfect, but if you have God, you have enough. When God becomes all that you want, your life is no longer defined by what’s missing. Here’s your one thought today: God is enough for you.

The first disciples left behind so much when they heard Jesus say three simple words. “Come, follow me.” 

They left behind jobs, routines, and any sense of familiarity. Why? Because something about Jesus was worth rearranging their lives for.

Micah 6:8 says, “…what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” 

God is not indifferent. He cares about justice more than any of us do, and He wants His people to reflect His heart. What does justice look like for you? Is it a big action? Sometimes it looks like quiet faithfulness. Whatever it is, keep caring about what is right and just. This comes from the heart of God.

The book of Proverbs is known for being the book of wisdom. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Every text message, every comment in a meeting, and even every whispered thought about someone else (and yourself) carries weight. 

Are your words bringing life or death to the people and things around you? We often underestimate our words because we say 16,000 of them each day. They feel fleeting, but they actually leave a lasting wake.

Life with Jesus looks different. Paul writes in Colossians, “You have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:9-10. Following Jesus is not behavior management. It’s a transformation. 

Your Creator is in the process of making you new. This takes time, but you will not be trapped in old patterns forever. With the help of God, you can choose to throw off the old and put on the new. You make these decisions every day, sometimes several times a day, and before you know it, you aren’t stuck anymore. You’re making progress and allowing God to transform you more and more into His image.

If you’ve been following Jesus for any amount of time, you probably know that pride isn’t a great thing. Even if you’re not following Jesus, you still don’t like arrogant people. Pride is easy to notice in others but difficult to notice in yourself. So what does pride look like exactly?

Pride can sound like self-sufficiency. Defensiveness. The need to always be right. The refusal to admit weakness. When we think of pride like this, it may be easier to notice it in our own hearts. Proverbs 16 says, “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:8)

Here’s what’s dangerous about pride: it slowly closes your heart off from God and others. You’re right, they’re wrong. I got it this time, God. And before you know it, you might find yourself distant from God and others. 

But humility does the opposite. It creates openness, teachability, and dependence. Maybe this is why scripture teaches again and again that God gives grace to the humble. Let’s humble our hearts together through this prayer:

Are you a glass-half-full or half-empty kind of person? Is the grass really greener on the other side? It’s possible to move through life and focus on what’s missing. You can probably come up with a few things you wish were different or things you want but don’t. 

Psalm 103 begins with “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. (Psalm 103:1-2). We forget, don’t we? 

It’s easy to forget answered prayers, daily provision, small acts of kindness, God’s patience, and His mercy. When we remember, we can thank Him for His goodness. Gratitude doesn’t ignore difficulty, but when you’re grateful, you see the whole picture. Gratitude refuses to let difficulty have the final word. Let’s intentionally be grateful today, and maybe it can start with this prayer:

Have you heard that we’re living in a microwave culture? Immediate results. Amazon Prime deliveries. We want what we want, and typically, we don’t have to wait very long to get it. So what do we do with a verse like Colossians 3:2? “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Eternity begins the moment you follow Jesus. This relationship with Him starts now and lasts forever. So it would make sense that our sense of time should change when we do life with Jesus. This life here on earth is not the whole story. 

Instead of being consumed by immediate things, allow this timeless eternity with Jesus to influence your priorities, values, and decisions. With Jesus, you can loosen your grip on what might feel stressful, like schedules, deadlines, or social approval. Living for eternity reshapes how you live today.

How much of your life is work? School work, house work, emotional work, parenting work, work-work. The kind of work no one notices. Most of the time, work feels disconnected from our faith. 

But in the Bible, ordinary work isn’t meaningless. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” Colossians 3:23. Whatever you do…

So how do ordinary jobs become holy? When you offer it to God. God isn’t just present in church services or quiet times. He’s present in the homework, spreadsheets, meetings, laundry room, office, you name it. When you take whatever you’re doing and do it with and for God, it becomes worship.

There seems to be a rise in mental health awareness, counseling, and positive self-talk. People are understanding more and more: if you want to change your life, change the way you think. But this isn’t new. Paul in the book of Romans wrote these words about 2000 years ago. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2. 

What you think about matters. God can renew your mind with truth, and over time, renewed thoughts become a renewed life. Is there a habit you’re trying to change? Instead of focusing on what you should stop doing, consider what you might need to start believing.
